The sky will light up with fireworks and Irvine’s sleepy, historic waterfront will shimmer into life this St Andrew’s Day as we celebrate the start of our four night art and light spectacular, illumination: Harbour Festival of Light.

Explore our free illumination Trail along the River Irvine with vessels, buildings and Harbourside sparkling with lights.

Marvel at breathtaking aerial acrobatics and an extraordinary light show in and around the vast Linthouse at the Scottish Maritime Museum.

Join in the Lantern Parade and illumi Bike Ride, enjoy the food and craft fair, skiff racing, whisky tastings and more!

Illumination: Light, Fire & Aerial Art Spectacular

Your extraordinary evening begins with a fire show in front of the vast A Listed Linthouse glowing with pulsating colours. Enjoy historic vessels Carola and Spartan lit up, a light installation on the boating bond, the Vintage Bus Bar and the monumental story of shipbuilding writ large against the colossal façade.

Then step inside the ‘cathedral of engineering’ and former shipyard building online casino reviews at kiwigambling.co.nz. Marvel at Spinal Chord as they perform gravity defying aerial acrobatics high above beautiful boats and awesome relics of maritime engineering.

The above start times are for the aerial performances inside the Linthouse. Please arrive 30 minutes early to enjoy the fire performances and other attractions in the Museum Courtyard. 
 
The only exception is the 4.30pm Linthouse show on Sunday 3rd. Visitors to this show will be able to see the fire performance in the Courtyard afterwards.

illumination: St.Andrew’s Day Fireworks Display

Our illumination festival begins on St Andrew’s Day, Scotland’s national day. Watch our pyrotechnics crackle, fizz and sparkle as we celebrate our history, culture and heritage with people at home and abroad.

illumination has received support as part of the Scotland’s Winter Festivals events programme.

Please note: Most illumination events are FREE. However, if you’d like to attend the Light, Fire and Aerial Art Spectacular you will need a ticket.

illumination: Light Trail

Highlights this year include the shimmering steel Kelpie maquettes sparkling with light on Irvine Harbour, once one of Scotland’s most important ports.

The three metre high maquettes are a fabulous opportunity to see what the world’s largest equine sculptures created by Andy Scott look like close up.

Look out too for brightly lit historic vessels and illuminated buildings along the waterfront Casino Luck, twinkling skiffs racing along the River Irvine (Saturday), our beautiful twinkling George Wyllie inspired Paper Boat, the world’s first, music-making Illumaphonium and a stunning light installation trailing from Harbourside onto the water designed by Squid Soup.

illumination: Skiff Racing by the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association

Watch Scottish Coastal Rowing members race their skiffs across Irvine Harbour during the day before taking a gentler pace twinkling on the water at night.

  • By road: From the A77 take the A71 and follow the brown VisitScotland road signs to the Museum or Harbourside. Please park in one of the signposted and FREE designated carparks on Harbour Road, Beach Drive, off Harbour Street (behind the Harbour Arts Centre) and at Irvine Beach. For disabled parking, please contact the Museum on 01294 278283. Please note, the carparks are approximately 10-15 minutes walk from the Museum.
